Savitribhai Phule was an Indian social reformer, educationalist, and poet from India.

  • Savitribhai Phule was born on 3 January 1831 in a village called Naigaon in Satara District, Maharashtra.
  • Savitribhai was the eldest daughter of Lakshmi and Khandoji Nevase Patil. They belonged to the Mali community. Mali community belongs to the cultivator category in the Hindu caste system.
  • In terms of education, Phule was illiterate till her marriage and it was Jyotirao who gave her basic education. Phule completed her primary education with Jyotirao and went for higher education with the help of her friends.
  • After attending two teacher training programs, Phule became the first Indian woman teacher and headmistress.
  • Some of her important works are Kavya Phule which was published in 1854 and Bavan Kashi Subodh Ratnakar published in 1892.
