The distance traveled by boat in 2 hrs upstream is 50 km

Given:

Speed of boat = 600% * speed of the stream

it takes 4hours to cover 120 km in still water.

To find:

distance traveled by boat in 2 hrs upstream

solution:

let the speed of the stream be x

then, the speed of the boat is = x* 600/100 =6x

speed of the boat upstream = 6x - x = 5x

it takes 4hours to cover 120 km in still water

speed * time = distance

speed of stream= x

we have, speed of boat =6x

and, 6x * 4 =120 km

so, the speed of the stream (x) = 120/24=5 km/hr

and,  speed of the boat is = 6x= 6*5 = 30 km/hr

distance traveled by boat upstream in 2 hours = speed of boat upstream * time

= 35 km/ hr * 2hr = 50 km

therefore, The distance traveled by boat in 2 hrs upstream is 50 km
