Given ,

Speed of light in glass = 2 × (10)^8 m/s

We know that , the ratio of speed of light in vacuum to the speed of light in medium is called refractive index

 \mathtt{ \fbox{Refractive  \: index =  \frac{Speed  \: of  \: light \:  in \:  vacuum}{Speed \:  of \:  light \:  in \:  medium}  \:   }}

Substitute the known values , we get

 \sf \hookrightarrow Refractive \:  index  =  \frac{3 \times  {(10)}^{8} }{2 \times  {(10)}^{8} }  \\  \\ \sf \hookrightarrow Refractive \:  index  = 1.5

Hence , the refractive index of glass is 1.5

Refractive index of glass is 1.5 .

refractive index of glass with respect to air is equal to

speed of light in air divided by speed of light in glass.

Thus,

refractive index_glass with respect to air =

speed of light in air / speed of light in glass

Thus,

= 3×10^8 / 2×10^8

= 3 /2 ( since we can cancel 10^8 by 10^8)

= 1.5 = refractive index of glass
