n the subject-verb agreement, the subject and the verb should agree with each other in number that is singular or plural. Therefore,  the subject is plural then the verb form is plural and if the subject is singular then the verb form is singular.

For example

The child is/are playing in the garden. (Subject, a child is singular hence, verb form will be singular.)

Books is/are kept on the table. ( Subject, books is plural, hence, the verb will be plural.)

Therefore, the above sentence when corrected would be written as:

My friend and I are going for a movie.

"”My friend and I am going for a movie”. In this sentence, there are two people involved.

One is me and my friend so when two people are involved in a sentence then using ’am’ is incorrect.

So instead of using ’am’ if we replace it with ’are’ then the sentence will be correct. ”my friend and I are going for a movie”. Is the right sentence.
