suppose : you have to find √5 on number line

first draw no. line

give no. on number line till -4 to +4

so now take the no which is less than 5 by only 1

5-1 = 4

4 is square of 2 so draw a line on your number line from 0 to +2 consider it as unit 2

now draw a vertical line on +2

now give a point on a particular distance / 2 cm but consider it as ( unit = 1 )

give letters to your points on 0 = A , 2 = B , and point C to the point which you have shown on the vertical line on +2

draw a straight line to connect point A and C

: apply Pythagoras theorem to ∆ ABC

: AC ² = AB² + BC²

: AC² = UNIT 2² + UNIT 1²

: AC ² = √5
