Sravan and his friends visited a cow farm as apart of field trip conducted by science club. During the visit they saw different breeds of cows and also some goats. some of them were grazing in the field and some of them were at rest. Sravan noticed the cows were always chewing something even though they were at rest. He shared this information with his friends and they were discussed about it. Finally, they came to the conclusion, all grass eating animals like cows, goats, camels etc. chewing like this. a. What are these kinds of animals called? b. What is the reason behind the purpose of chewing, which can be seen in these grass eating animals? c. Holozoic nutrition can be seen in these animals also like humans. But the digestive system in these animals is different from humans. Why?

a) This kind of animals are known as ruminants.

b) They chew like this because they eat plants directly...mwhich contains cellulose...it takes lon time for digestion of cellulose. Therefore, once they take in the food, they bring it back to their mouth again for its proper chewing again

c) The digestive system in these animals have larger small intestine so that food can stay here for longer time nad cellulose can be digested easily
