By Pythagoras Theorem :-

$\implies\:\:$AC² = AB² + BC²

$\implies\:\:$AC² = 5² + 12²

$\implies\:\:$AC² = 25 + 144

$\implies\:\:$AC² = 169

$\implies\:\:$AC = √169

$\implies\:\:$AC = √13²

$\implies\:\:$AC = 13
