Staff reporter 12 Feb 03: Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated Rabindra Bhavan hall at Diamond
Harbour by Priya cultural academy yesterday. Rabindranath is known all over the world for his
poetry, novel, short story, essay, and his thoughts. He is the pioneer of modern Indian renaissance. He
was born on 7th May 1861 at Jorasako Thakur Bari in Kolkata. He was the first Indian to be awarded
the Nobel prize in 1913 for his book Gitanjali. His works are
a. drama-Chitrangada, Shyama, Chandika etc
b. Novel-Char Odhay, Shesherkobita, Chatungada etc
C. Story-Atithi, Kabuliwala etc.
The Poem Jana Gana Mana is also composed by him. The poem was published in February 1905 under
the title Bharat Bhagya Bidhata in the Tatwabodhini Patrika. This poem is adopted as the national
anthem on 24 Jan 1950. The programme started with a nice Tagore song. Then other schedules
programme started one after another. Many artists, schollers, singers attended the programme and
showed respective skilled. Secretary of Priya academy and many other members gave a valuable
speech on Tagore life and philosophy. Dance and singing competition also performed successfully.
The last stage performance was Kabuliwala and around 7 p.m the programme was completed. The
audience was pleased to come here.
