-0.74 V. These two couples in their standard state
are connected to make a cell. The cell potential

Answer:

E cell =0.89V

Explanation:

Cell potential = Ered + E oxi

change the sign of value which is small and make it E oxi

so Eoxi =+0.74

E red = +0.15

Ecell = 0.15 +0.74

Ecell =0.89 V

Answer:

+0.89 V

Explanation:

E cell = E cathode - E anode

=(+0.15) - (-0.74)

=+0.89 V

Since the electrode potential of Sn⁴⁺/Sn²⁺ is more positive than electrode potential of Cr³⁺/Cr, the Sn⁴⁺/Sn²⁺ will act as the Cathode where reduction occurs while Cr³⁺/Cr electrode will act as the anode where oxidation occurs.

So the cathodic and anodic reactions can be written as follows,

Cathodic Reaction,

Sn⁴⁺ +2e → Sn²⁺

Anodic Reaction,

Cr → Cr³⁺ + 3e

TIP: Always a properly biased cell has a positive potential.
