Concept Introduction: Motion in one dimension is a basic part of Physics.

Given:

We have been Given: Speed from East is

5m {s}^{ - 1}

Distance from East is

200m

Speed from West is

4m {s}^{ - 1}

Distance from West is

280m

To Find:

We have to Find: Then the average speed and average velocity of your race from pillar to lamp post are?

Solution:

According to the problem, Total Distance travelled is

200m + 280m = 480m

Time taken for East distance is

 \frac{200}{5}  = 40sec

Time taken for West Distance is

 \frac{280}{4}  = 70sec

Total Time taken is,

40  + 70 = 110 \: sec

Therefore the average speed is,

 \frac{480}{110}  = 4.36m {s}^{ - 1}

Final Answer: The average speed is,

4.36m {s}^{ - 1}
