In first case...
(starting from rest)
u= 0
v= 10m/s
t = 40 s
therefore acceleration is v-u/t
= 10 -0/40
..= 10/40
= 1/4 m/s^2..
in second case
u = 10m/s
v = 5 m/s
t = 20 s
therefore acceleration = v-u/ t
= 10-5/20
that is 5/20
= 1/4..☺
so in both the cases acceleration will be 1/4
