3Mn + 8HNO3 → 3Mn(NO3)2 + 2NO + 4H2O

4Mg + 10HNO3 → 4Mg(NO3)2 + N2O + 5H2O

When a metal reacts with nitric acid, hydrogen gas ({H}_{2}) is not evolved because Nitric acid (H{NO}_{3}) is a strong oxidizing agent.

In case of Magnesium (Mg) and Manganese (Mn), they react with very dilute Nitric acid (H{NO}_{3}) to evolve Hydrogen ({H}_{2}) gas.

Equations:

A)

Mn(s) + 2H{NO}_{3}(aq) \longrightarrow Mn{({NO}_{3})}_{2}(aq) + {H}_{2}(g)

B)

Mg (s) + 2H{NO}_{3}(aq) \longrightarrow Mg{({NO}_{3})}_{2} (aq) + {H}_{2} (g)
