Hooke's law: Its states that, "In an elastic member, stress is directly proportional to strain within elastic limit". It is a law stating that the strain in a solid is proportional to the applied stress within the elastic limit of that solid.

according to hooke"s law,

definition:-------

the stress produced in body is directly proportional to strain.

           stress ∝ strain

explanation:- -----------

suppose a body where some deforming force is applied , then a restoring force setup in the body . and that restoring force setup in per unit area of cross section of body which either increases when increase in dimension of body per original dimension or decrease when decrease in dimension of body per original dimension.
