Germany had to pay the war reparation in gold which depleted at a time when resources where scarce.
France took away their industrial area called Ruhr, as Germany was not able to pay the war reparation. So, as France occupied Ruhr, Germany retaliated with passive resistance and printed paper money recklessly. As a result the value of German mark fell( currency). Prices of good soared high. People had to carry cartloads of money to just buy a loaf of bread. Hence this led to a condition called hyperinflation ( economic crisis) a situation where prices rise phenomenally high
Hope this helps.. Good luck
