Properties of gamma rays (radiation) :

(1) They are the highest energy em waves in the range keV to GeV.

(2) They have the highest penetrating power and the least ionizing power among all electromagnetic radiations.

(3) They affect photographic plates and produce fluorescence.

(4) They can break DNA molecules and kill cells of living tissues.

(5) They cause photoelectric effect, Compton scattering. High energy y-rays, in the presence of a heavy nucleus, can cause pair production.
