State hook's law plot stress strain curve within elastic

it states that the strain in a solid Is directly proportional to the applied stresd within the elastic limit of that solid.


the graph will be stress(y axis) vs strain(x axis)

the line will first go straight up until a point A

this point A is the proportionality limit.
after that for increasing a small amount of stress, strain increases more but still the object is still completely elastic. if we reduce the force slowly, the object still can come to it's original configuration. we call this as point B and is called THE ELASTIC LIMIT.

after point B, till it reaches point C, the strain for a corresponding increae in stress is very large. even for small force, the elongation produced is high.
point D is max. stress possible and is called ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH.
and point E is called FRACTURE point.
