the air gets polluted when the external components of nature gets changed biologically, chemically or physically or by humans and may cause effects to the environment either ill or good.

we can't blame nature as it's we who make it cause; nature has its own phenomena. the air gets polluted due to volcanoes also but afterwards it gets transpirated through plants and trees.

the volcanoes cause it in natural amount which is good for nature, from the point of view of plants. we never check amount of pollution before causing which may be excessive to be transpirated by plants. thus we are presently suffering so much.

such type can be seen in Delhi, one of the most populated and even polluted place of the world.

hope it was helpful.
