Laws of refraction

1) Incident ray, refracted ray and normal all lies on the same plane at the point of incidence

2)The ratio of sin angle I to sin angle R is constant

sin✓I/sin✓R= constant

When the light travels from rarer medium to denser medium it bends towards or away from normal .This phenomenon is know as refractive index or absolute refractive index.

Every object has different refractive index

Formula

Speed of light/ Speed of light in medium 1= absolute index

Answer:

laws:-

  • incident line, refracted line and normal at the point of incidence all lie on the same plane
  • ratio of the sine of angle of incidence to sine of angle of refraction is constant

Refractive index is the ratio of the sine of angle of incidence in the first medium to sine of angle of refraction in the second medium.

refractive index =(sin i)/sin r
