Dugwells are just open surface wells which are mainly used for recharging ground water by first catching the rain water through catchments at rooftops and transporting the water through conduits and recharging the groundwater through dugwells or borewells.

Tube wells are wells that are dug very deep in areas where the soil is soft and there is cheap electricity. The well almost touches the water table of the ground water level. Water is pulled out with the help of diesel or electric pumps.

Dugwell- Water is collected from water bearing strata.

Tubewell- Tap water from deeper strata.

Rain water harvesting and watershed management which involves building check dams are the two initiative taken to increase the water available for Agriculture.
