The sugar in water forms a homogeneous mixture while the sugar and sand forms a heterogeneous solution.
similarity:
-both the sugar water solution and the sand and sugar mixture are physical mixtures and not chemical mixtures.
differences:
-In the sugar water solution the mixture is uniform and any sample from the solution will be identical.
-On the other hand, the sand-sugar solution is not uniformly distributed and samples from the mixture may vary widely.

the only similarity in this is that they both show the property of its constituent and can be separated by physical methods and the difference is that sugar solution is a homogeneous solution whereas sugar and salt mixture is heterogeneous
