The Constitution has three main functions. First it creates a national government consisting of a legislative, an executive, and a judicial branch, with a system of checks and balances among the three branches. Second, it divides power between the federal government and the states.

FUNCTIONS :

It projects the form of government in the country.It ensures the fundamental rights to it's citizens.It directs the states in making legislations.It lay out the procedures for several functions, administrations, legislation, execution of the government machinaries.It provides for the separation of Powers.It provides for the independence of each organ say., Legislative, Executive and Judiciary.It upholds the sovereignty of the nation.It acts as a check in maladministration and misuse of powers.It provides for answerability and accountability of government to the people of the country.It provides for Judicial review in case of legislations violating the Supreme procedure established by law (i. e. Constitution)
