Sexual reproduction is the process by which the union between male and female gametes takes place forming the zygote which is diploid in nature. The male and the female gametes are haploid in nature.

Importance of sexual reproduction:

• Sexual reproduction enhances the chances of gene variations in the resulting offspring as the combination of DNA materials occur from two different parents.

• This facilitates natural selection as a more diverse set of species result from this type of union.
