If the density of the body is less than that of the liquid, the body floats.
If the density of the body is more than that of the liquid, the body sinks.

The conditions necessary for a body to float or sink in a fluid is as follows:-
i) If the upthrust force is greater than the weight of the body, then it will float with partly immersed inside the liquid and if upthrust force is equal to the weight of the body, then also it will float by totally immersed inside the liquid.
ii) If the weight of the body is greater than the upthrust force, then it will sink.
