DISTANCE -: is a scalar Quantity that refers to the ' ground covered ' by the object during its motion ( it is the actual length covered ).

DISPLACEMENT -: is a vector quantity that refers to the shortest distance between initial and final point .

Explanation:

for example if a car is at its starting point and travels 5km to the east and turns back to west by 8km the total distance covered would be 5+8= 13km , but the displacement would be 3km since the car is 3km away from its initial point.

the distance would be 30m and displacement would be 10m in a particle moving in circle
