Nuclear Fission
This process is just splitting a heavy unstable nucleus by bombarding with nucleus with some neutrons. This splits the nucleus in to 2 and a chain reaction is formed and thus energy is released.
Nuclear Fusion
It's the exact opposite of fission. Here 2 light nuclei combine together to make one nucleus and in that process energy is released. This process releases more energy than fission, but our metallurgy is not that developed to withstand the heat produced during the process. It also produces less radioactive waste when compared with fission.
