solid:

1. particles are very closely packed

2. definite shape and volume

3. particles are not free to move

4. cannot be compressed

liquid:

1. particles are loosely packed compared to solids

2. definite volume but no definite shape(takes shape of container)

3. particles are free to move but not more freely compared to gases

4. can be compressed but not much

gas:

1. particles are very free to move around

2. no definite volume and shape

3. particles are free to move easily

4. highly compressible
