Answer:

This question is taken from the story "A Horse and Two Goats" written by 'R. K. Narayan'  a prominent English Written Indian author.

Explanation:

Muni was the main character of this story. He was a lower-caste Hindu Tamil, lived in a village, called Kirtham.

Muni, an old and desperately poor man,  was prosperous, at a time, with a large flock of sheep, but some misfortune happened and he lost all sheep and now he had only two scrawny goats.

Once he was  watches the road and waits for the appropriate time to return home,  he sees that, yellow station wagon comes down  and a foreigner (the American) in the Khaki cloth gets out and asked Muni that where to find the nearest gas station.

Seeing the foreigner, Muni thought to run away, assuming from the khaki that this foreigner must be a policeman or a soldier. Muni's cannot run as he was too old. Besides this he cannot leave his goats.

The two don't understand each other's languages i.e. English and Tamil.

The foreigner offer Muni's cigarette and his business card but seeing the card Muni fears that it is a warrant of some kind.

The Foreigner want to inquire about the statue of a horse but Muni in his innocence thought  that the foreigner is a investigation officer and whatever crime the man is investigating.

Answer:

When Muni meets the foreigner for the first time, and the foreigner greets him, Muni immediately gives him a detailed account of who he is and who the goats belong to.

The exchange highlights the cross cultural differences and make this interaction a humorous one.

Neither can speak the other’s language properly and so the correct response is missing in this interaction.
