The law of constant proportion:
This law states that" a compound always contains exactly the same proportion of elements by mass"
If the mass ratio of elements is altered ,a new compound is formed. For example water H2O comprises of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom . Therefore, H2O can be expressed as the fixed ratio 2:16 or as a simple ratio 1:8 by mass and this mass ratio remains constant
