• The incident Ray , the refractive Ray And the normal to the separating surface at the point of incidence all lie in the same plane.

• The ratio of sin eik angle of incidence to the angle of refraction is a constant.

When a ray of light passes through rarer to denser medium or vice-versa it is directed away or towards the normal. This is called refraction of light.

1/f = 1/u - 1/v

and also p=1/f,hence

p = 1/u - 1/v
