The earth revolves around its own axis as it moves around the sun.

The actual time it takes is :

23 hrs 56 mins 4 secs

This is what makes a day.

The earth completes more than one turn in one solar day and this is why we cannot take the period as 24 hrs.

Therefore the magnitude of the period in one day means that it goes 360°.

The magnitude of the period is thus :

23 hrs 56 mins 4s or 86164 seconds
