• Do not apply excessive force to the work piece. Excessive measuring force will develop  instrument error because of the positional deviation of the jaw or deformation of the work  piece.
• Take reading on the vernier / main scale in a viewing direction perpendicular to the measured  point on the scales.
• Do not use the vernier as a stick or screw driver. Do not throw it on the table
