State the principle of rocket propulsion and obtain an expression for its acceleration and thrust on rocket. If in a rocket, fuel burns at a rate of 100 kgs and the exhaust gases are expelled out with a velocity 4.5 X 10 m/s. Calculate the force acting on the rocket.

Newton's third law of motion states that to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Acceleration of a rocket isa=vemΔmΔt−g. a = v e m Δ m Δ t − g . The greater the exhaust velocity of the gases, the greater the acceleration.
