it's purpose was to pressure the British government to preserve the authority of the Ottoman Sultan as a caliph of islam following the breakup of Ottoman Empire at the end of the war .

To defend this , a khilafat committee was forced to undo the wrong done to turkey joined with non cooperation movement .
