Right hand rule -
Imagine the axis of rotation to be held in right hand with the fingres curled around it and thumb outstretched. If the curled fingers give the direction of motion of a particle performing circular motion, then the direction of outstretched thumb gives the direction of angular displacement vector.

Angular velocity is the angular change rate around an axis. Its course is determined by law of the right hand.

  • When you keep the axis with your right hand and move your fingers in the direction of the spinning body, the thumb will point the direction of the angular velocity according to the right hand law.
  • The rule for the right hand screw can be used when determining a direction based on a direction of rotation, or vice-versa. In the right hand the axis is ' grabbed, ' the fingers curl round in the direction of positive rotation and the thumb is oriented in the positive direction.
