Nitrogen is very important for growing good crops. Even though a huge quantity of nitrogen present in air, it cannot be used by the plants as such.
Nitrogen is fixed to usable forms by a type of bacteria called the RHIZOBIA BACTERIA. This is called nitrogen fixation.

Without nitrogen, plants cannot grow well. This is because, without nitrogen plants cannot prepare food.
Nitrogen is a component of chlorophyll and helps the plant to perform photosynthesis. It also helps in protein production.
