Answer:
•Rajkumar C. Ghawalia, divisional convener of the Safai Karamchari Andolan, has demanded that the Union government abolish the practice of manual scavenging and extend rehabilitation schemes to them under the National Safai Karamchari Commission.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Ghawalia said that the government has failed to implement the Prohibition of Employment of Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.
“Even after a Supreme Court directive on paying Rs. 10 lakh to the families of safai karmachari’s who died cleaning manholes and septic tanks, the Union government has failed to pay the compensation to most of the bereaved families since 1993,” he added.
