The creation of the Constitution and the Constituent Assembly was a difficult task in India. The British had left all the states in the hands of the princes and rulers. So, it was difficult to bring them all together and merge the princely states into one. When the constitution was being written, there was a lot of uncertainty as to how it would affect the future of the nation.

So, the leaders like Motilal Nehru and other Congress party leaders came to a conclusion of including basic values that should be followed to maintain peace and integrity in the nation and for the successful drafting of the constitution.

The 3 basic values included the - Right to equality and freedom, Protection of Minority rights, and the inclusion of the universal adult franchise. The minority rights were included keeping in mind the Muslims who were getting offended and insecure in a Hindu-based country.
