TWO WAYS TO PREVENT THE RUSTING OF IRON :-

RUSTING OF IRON CAN BE PREVENTED BY GALVANISATION.IN THIS PROCESS THIN LAYER OF ZINC METAL IS DEPOSITED OVER THE SURFACE OF IRON OBJECT TO PREVENT THE AIR AND MOISTURE FROM COMING IN CONTACT WITH IT.

RUSTING OF IRON CAN BE PREVENTED BY PAINTING .IN THIS PROCESS CIAT OF PAINT IS APPLIED ALL OVER THE SURFACE OF IRON OBJECT TO KEEP THE AIR AND MOISTURE AWAY.

The rusting of metals forms due to the reaction among metals and atmosphere mostly with Oxygen and form metal oxides. When Iron reacts with oxygen it forms rust or iron oxide. There the following reaction happens :

Fe + 02 --------> Feo2 ( ferum oxide )

The rusting of metals is also called as Corrosion.

Methods to reduce corrosion are :

⏩ Avoiding contact with outer atmosphere by applying paints can reduce corrosion.

⏩ Galvanising of metals can reduce corrosion.

⏩ Electroplating of metals also reduces the corrosion.

⏩ Applying grease and other lubricants also reduce corrosion.
