State why the nitric acid in the desert formed is not used in the laboratory production of hydrogen from metals

HNO3 has a great oxidising power. The hydrogen generally evolved is oxidised to Water in case of reactions with HNO3. As it doesn't evolve any hydrogen as a final product, so it can never be used for production of hydrogen gas.
