Step 1 :

First draw the main skeleton structure of having N-N-O connectivity with single bonds without showing any formal charge.

Total number of valence electrons = 5×2+6 = 16

Step 2 :

Four electrons are used to form two bonds in the skeleton structure.

Remaining valence electrons = 16-12 = 12

Step 3 :

The central nitrogen atom still needs two lone pairs, terminal nitrogen atom still needs three lone pairs and oxygen atom still need three lone pairs to complete the octet. Therefore, total 16 electrons are still needed. But we have 12 electrons in hand. Therefore, two additional bonds are needed which can be placed in three different ways.

N N
// \\ or / \\\
N O N O

Step 4 :

Place the required number of lone pairs on atoms whose octet are incomplete and calculate the formal charge of each atom of all structures.

N+
// \\
:(N-): :O:

[ Therefore, it's the structure of N2O ]
