The problem is basically the field Hawking studies - black holes
All theories in space/time are very difficult to prove because it literally takes decades, if not centuries, to build the technology required to do the experiment. If we had the technology to travel into deep space, and do experiments on black holes, Hawkings would probably win a Nobel quite quickly. But unfortunately, it’s a lot harder than that.
