The answer is option (D) 144.8°

GIVEN

Timothy pushes twice as hard as Stephen. Stephen pushes at an angle of 30N east of north, and the resultant of these two pushes is 33 N directly eastward.

TO FIND

Direction of push by Timothy.

SOLUTION

The above problem can be simply solved as follows;

Push by F₁ = 30N East of North

Resultant force F = 33N East

It is known that,

F² = ((F₁)² - (F₂)²)

33² = 30² - F₂²

1089 - 900 = F₂²

189 = F₂²

F₂ = 13.4 N

Hence, The answer is option (D) 144.8°
