The first and foremost step that anygovernment should take is supply of drinking water to the drought area. For this, the government should plan accordingly. Drought prove ares should be identified. Dams should be built near the catchment areas and channels for water supply should be made.

The steps which are taken by the government to combat drought, are as follows -

• First of all,the water resources are supplied by the government to the population of drought areas.

• After dealing with the problem of water shortage , further steps are taken.

• At last, the government tries to find and establish a replacement source of water in that area. (Eg. Ground water, River of another region, Rainwater harvesting etc.)

• The main motive of the government is to find a way to remove the water shortage problem.
