Stomatas are present on the upper surface of the leaf so as to maximise the rate of absorption of carbon dioxode ( CO2 ) and emission of water ( H2O ) and oxygen ( O2 ) into the atmosphere because upper surface of leaf is more exposed to the atmosphere than lower surface.
