80 is the maximum height covered by the stone by using the formula of v square is equal to u square - 2 as when the particle reached the maximum height its final velocity becomes 0 and initial velocity is 40 m per second

h=u^2/2g (by eq of motion)
40*40/2*10
1600/20
=80m
