"Athtirampakkam is one of the Palaeolithic or early stone-age sites in India. This small town is located at about 60 km of Chennai along the northwest coastal area surrounding the river Kortallaiyar.

The excavations revealed stone artefacts and tools like spears, knives, scrapers, cleavers, etc., that showcased the Acheulian and Palaeolithic Middle age culture.

These stone tool layers are about 250,000 years old. This discovery also throws light upon the shift of stone-age culture in Africa and India."
