Answer:

Starting Current

Starting Current is the current required to rotate the rotor every time the motor is run from a stop condition. It also called Inrush Current or Lock Rotor Current (LRC) where the value can reach 6 or 7 times of operating current if starting with Direct On Line (DOL) method, can also be less than depending of design that will be shown in the motor datasheet. Starting Current will only occur for a few seconds but this will greatly affect the control and protection design. To reduce the starting current can be done by changing the starting method of the motor (Auto Transformer, STAR-DELTA, Soft-Starter, VFD Inverter) which of course requires additional cost than just Direct On line.

Running Current

Running Current is the current required to drive 100% of load at full voltage and frequency. This is often called nominal current or rated current. So this rated current will be greatly affected by the load, and keep in mind motor should not work excess of the specified rated current because this will make overload if motor is designed without service factor.
