Story Telling by Grand Parents on Freedom Struggle:

  • Before the division, my grandparents were young and attended school. They resided in different districts of Sindh until emigrating to India in 1947.
  • When we talked about the war for independence, they often brought up the division, and how they had to leave behind all of their possessions and come to India to start over.
  • My Grandfather often used to narrate stories about one teacher who lived in almost the same colony as mine. He was active in the regional freedom movement, attending Prabhat feris (morning rallies) and telling other people regarding Gandhiji as well as other freedom fighters who were inspired by him. Grandfather also became interested in the operations of Indian National Congress.
  • When he told me about his experience as a volunteer at a Gandhi rally and how he had the wonderful fortune of riding in the same car as Mahatma Gandhi, I could see the enormous pride on his face!
  • Soon after, he joined a gang that planned to blow up bridges, blast government mailboxes, and cut railway power lines!
