In the Jataka Tales, ‘Golden Elephant’, the elephant lived near a pond.
There was a house near the pond where a poor woman lived with her two daughters.
The elephant thought of helping the poor woman by giving her a bit of his golden tusk so that she could sell it and live happily.
Soon this became a regular feature and the woman would spend all money earned by selling the tusk.
She became greedy and tried to take the entire tusk from the elephant one day.
He was very hurt. He went away, never to come back.
Thus, the moral of the story is that greed causes great harm.
