In her dreams, Ashley was sitting on her mother’s lap, listening to her dad’s beautiful melody on the violin. Suddenly, she heard a loud beep, and a wall started to separate them from each other. “No! Don’t go away! I can’t lose you anymore!” Ashley cried. She could see her father wobbling through tears. Tears like rain drops trickled down Ashley’s cheek. She covered her face with her hands. A pitch black wall began to surround her…
“Wake up! Wake up!” Ashley heard the familiar drone of the robot. She forced herself to get up; otherwise she would be dragged by the powerful claws of the robot. If there was a time machine, she could get back everything that she lost. But that was just wishful thinking. Wearily, Ashley walked into the bathroom. For some reason, it was dead silent. She heard faint footsteps behind her. Ashley turned around, and felt her eyes stinging. Isabella had sprayed eco-green right into her face. It was out of the frying pan, into the fire. Laughter filled the room, as Ashley washed her face. There was no longer the supply of fresh water, just chemical liquid to drink and wash. Gulping down her breakfast tablet, she ran to the laboratory.
Ashley sat down to meet her teacher, Dr Makenac. He was her favourite teacher, and somewhat reminded her of her father. Scruffy auburn hair like autumn leaves. He had curious green eyes, and white teeth that glittered in the light. Dr Makenac was a supporter and a friend to her. How long had it been since she had seen her parents? While Ashley was pondering, the rest of the group came in and slumped in their chairs. Isabella slammed the door as if there was something following her.
Dr Makenac started talking to the class. “In the past centuries, global warming has slowly deteriorated the Earth. Two islands have sunk already.” Gasps went around the classroom. “But we can change our mistakes by going back in time. Thorough research had helped to make a time machine.” The metal gate opened, and the huge machine came rolling in. Ashley clutched her heart and it thumped wildly. Dr Makenac explained that somebody needed to test the machine.
“Who knows that it will go back to the present time?” Amber asked. A hush spread across the room. Everybody realized that it was too dangerous. Ashley felt sweat in her palms. One part of her said, yes, and the other side said, no. Her mind felt like jigsaws with missing pieces. Ashley’s mouth moved, “I’ll go!” Dr Makenac looked at her with solemn eyes, and Ashley pleaded him. “It’s a dangerous mission.” Taking a glance at the time machine, it was just as she imagined. Ashley stepped in, taking small steps. Her trembling finger touched the gleaming button. The machine whirred, and she was drenched in a golden light. Flashes of rainbow streaks surrounded her. It was like being in an everlasting bubble. Ashley closed her eyes. She was drifting into time.
